How the Whale Entanglement Team Released a Grey Whale from Crab Gear that Held it Captive for Several Days. Marine Mammal Center volunteer Kathi Koontz tells George Clyde that two sets of crab gear and a rope through its mouth held the whale until freed from the entanglement with a single cut. Breaking News (Updated Wednesday morning): Large Fishing Boat Aground at Limantour Beach. According to John Dell'Osso of Pt. Reyes National Seashore, a 43' commercial salmon trawler, the "Barbara Faye" out of Half Moon Bay, washed ashore sometime after sunrise Tuesday morning about a half-mile south of Coast Camp, at the extreme southern end of Limantour Beach. The Captain, the only person on board, is safe. Yesterday about 300 gallons of diesel and other fluids were removed, and salvage operations will continue today. Parker Dive is conducting the operation,and the Coast Guard, California Fish and Game, and National Marine Sanctuary are involved along with the NPS. Link to video Tuesday by Joe Soule. A Parade, Horse-Drawn Wagons, Blacksmithing and Children's Costumed Renditions of the Early Years Were All Part of Nicasio's 150th Anniversary Celebration Saturday. Historian Dewey Livingston describes the event, tells of the luxury hotel's ballroom, horseracing and the baseball field in times gone by, and warmly describes the Nicasio of today. Retailers in Point Reyes Station and Bolinas Respond Differently to County's Request To Stop Selling Toxic Rat and Mice Poisons That Can Kill Birds and Wildlife. Second generation anti-coagulate rodenticides, which a Board of Supervisors' resolution asks to be pulled from local stores, are still on the shelves in Point Reyes Station, but not in Bolinas. George Clyde speaks with Stockton Buck about his campaign in Bolinas and with Karen Dibblee of Bolinas Bay Hardware & Mercantile.
Wind Harvest International, a Leading Developer of Vertical Wind Turbine Technology, Maintains its Executive Offices in the Old Creamery Building. Co-founder George Wagner of Inverness tells George Clyde about the company, which is finalizing international certification of its 50-foot-high turbine that would operate beneath and alongside conventional wind turbines on wind farms. Wind Harvest International hopes to book its first major sales order next year.
