Last Night the Shoreline Unified School District Trustees Agreed With County Superintendent Mary Jane Burke to Strengthen the Principal's Office at Tomales High With a New Hire for the Remainder of the School Year, Freeing Up More Time for Superintendent Stephen Rosenthal for Superintendent Duties.   The Trustees will meet again Thursday night to work out details.  Trevor Bach of the Point Reyes Light provides the report, and his full article with additional reporting will appear in the Light's Thursday edition.

Tuesday, April 3 – Several Local Dairies Close posted Tue Apr 3 05:36:15 2012

Four Local Dairies Close, Three in Recent Weeks.  Marin Farm Bureau President Dominic Grossi blames the cumulative effects of low milk prices and high feed prices over three years, with another bad year forecast for non-organic dairies.  According to reliable sources, dairies already closed in Marin and southern Sonoma Counties are Leveroni Brothers, Meadows Dairy and Henry Spaletta Ranch, and a fourth dairy in West Marin is expected to sell its approximately 400 milk cows shortly. Grossi tells George Clyde that more closures of conventional dairies this year are likely.

Monday, April 2 – Time to Shoot the Turkeys? posted Mon Apr 2 05:53:42 2012

The Spring Hunting Season for Our Local Wild Turkeys Began on Saturday.  Veteran turkey hunter Steve Doughty of Point Reyes Vineyards tells George Clyde how he thins the flocks at the vineyard and on West Marin ranches, as the non-native birds introduced by DFG (and locally by Synanon) have no natural predators and are regarded by many as unwelcome pests.  Will Clark, Doughty's nephew, says they make great eating. Friday, March 30 – Bar-Or Ranch and Kirschman Permits Approved posted Fri Mar 30 05:30:22 2012

Deputy Zoning Administrator Approves (1) the Bar-Or Subdivision in Point Reyes Station with an Affordable Housing Unit on Tomasini Canyon Road and (2) the Kirschman Well Permit in Bolinas. George Clyde speaks with Gal Bar-or, Michael Mery, CLAM executive director Kim Thompson and County Affordable Housing Coordinator Leelee Thomas. Cela O'Connor and Richard Kirschman comment as the O'Connors say they will appeal the permit to the Coastal Commission.

Thursday, March 29 – New Grant Lights up Dance Palace posted Thu Mar 29 06:15:33 2012

With A $25K Grant from the Bothin Foundation, the Dance Palace Will Install a State-of-the Art Lighting System That Cuts Heat and Energy Consumption and Provides a Better Look for the Audience.  Dance Palace Executive Director Dan Mankin tells George Clyde about the system that will be installed this spring.  Separately, a group headed by Julie Monson is working to bring Osher Lifelong Learning Institute courses to West Marin, with an informational meeting at the DP church space on May 17 at 4 PM.

Wednesday, March 28 – West Marin School Principal Anne Harris Quits posted Wed Mar 28 05:48:27 2012

Principal Anne Harris Has Suddenly Resigned from West Marin and Inverness Schools, and Former Principal Jim Patterson Will Serve as Interim Principal Until July.  KWMR's George Clyde attended the PTSA meeting last night, where Shoreline Unified School District Superintendent Stephen Rosenthal and Trustee Tim Kehoe explained.  The parents and teachers were surprised and disappointed by the news, and the group will be making a statement at the Board of Trustees meeting tonight in West Marin School.

Tuesday, March 27 – Dr. Corey Goodman Files New Misconduct Claim posted Tue Mar 27 05:26:46 2012

Scientific Misconduct Complaint Charges That Authors of Draft Environmental Impact Statement for Drakes Estero Intentionally Misled Public and Peer Reviewer with Table Showing High Noise from Oyster Operations.  In a letter to Interior Secretary Ken Salazar, Dr. Corey Goodman says DEIS improperly presented east coast noise data as if it were local, misleading public and peer reviewer Dr. Christopher Clark.  He tells George Clyde that the DEIS process is flawed and should be restarted.  Links to Goodman letter to Salazar and noise source data: boats and equipment.
