After Presenting the "West Marin Report" for One Year Today - With a Total of 232 Local Radio News Programs - Producer George Clyde Turns Out the Lights.  Clyde thanks everyone at KWMR and the program's many reporters and contributors, but says it's too much for a single person to run indefinitely, and no other volunteer producers have emerged.  Reporting, editing and producing the program has given him one of the best years of his life, he says, and he'll greatly miss the fun, satisfaction and all-consuming daily challenges that the show provided.  And he's especially grateful to you, the listeners, for being there. What To Do When the Bicycles Take Over Our Roads.  With the Marin Century and the Holstein Hundred attracting thousands of additional bike riders for 100-mile organized rides on West Marin's roads, it's a good time to consider how cars should deal with bicyclists - the considerate ones that ride single-file, and those that travel two or three abreast.  George Clyde interviews Doug Henningsen of Marin Cyclists and offers some of his own techniques: "Car back!"

California State Parks' Hidden Fund Revelations Have Killed Sonoma County's Sales Tax Proposal for Parks and Open Spaces, But Marin County Pushes On.  Yesterday the Supervisors dropped the proposed rescue of China Camp and Olompali State Parks, but included support of special districts like Bolinas and Tomales. The November ¼% sales tax ballot proposal for parks, open spaces and farmland gets its "first reading" today. George Clyde reports with comments from BOS President Supervisor Steve Kinsey, County Parks Director and General Manager Linda Dahl, and MALT's co-founder Phyllis Faber. Whooping Cough (Pertussis) is Surging Nationally after Hitting Record Levels in California, and West Nile Virus Appears in Petaluma - What Does it Mean for West Marin?  Coastal Health Alliance's Medical Director Dr. Michael Witte tells George Clyde that up-to-date vaccinations for whooping cough are essential to protect individuals and the community, and that the threat of serious illness from West Nile virus, transmitted by mosquitoes, is quite small.  Links to information on whooping cough and to Marin/Sonoma Mosquito & Vector Control District.

The Community Land Trust for West Marin ("CLAM") Got an Update from Linda Wagner of the Marin Workforce Housing Trust, Kathleen Harris of the Marin Community Foundation and Carlos Porrata on MCF's $1 Million Initiative, with Plans to Build or Improve 200 Housing Units for Low-Income Agricultural Workers in the Next Five Years.  California Human Development in Santa Rosa has been hired as Project Director, MCF is helping with a proforma for the project, and now even rental properties and workers involved in production of agricultural products like cheese may qualify for the program.  Meanwhile the Marin Workforce Housing Trust already is visiting twelve interested ranches.  George Clyde reports.

Requests for Ships to Slow Down and Proposed Changes in the Shipping Lanes Were Urged by a Joint Working Group of the Cordell Bank and Gulf of the Farallones National Marine Sanctuaries.  Cordell Bank Sanctuary's Deputy Superintendent Michael Carver and John Berge of the Pacific Merchant Shipping Association describe to George Clyde these first actions recommended by the joint working group.  Links to the group's report and the National Marine Sanctuaries' webpage.
