What is a Radiogram?

The radiogram system operates much like old Western Union telegram system.  The sender writes out the message along with the name and address of the recipient on a radiogram blank.  One of the KWMR Radiogram Girls will help with this. 

The completed radiogram is handed to me for transmission by Morse code to a designated relay station.  If needed, the radiogram will be relayed from station to station across the country, all by manual Morse code, until it reaches the destination city where some geezer like me will deliver the radiogram by phone, reading it to the addressee.  So it's important that the phone number be included in the address. 

Sometimes it takes a bit of explanation for the recipient to understand that it's not a sales call but a radiogram instead.  But once they get it, they are invariably thrilled.

Transmitter Wrangler Richard Dillman and his Lovely Assistants will be making Radiograms available for those attending Sweethearts of the Radio. Send your sweetheart a Radiogram in "real time" from the event!
