“Let’s Talk About the Weather”

September 2, 2025

It was typically warm, with a little morning fog thrown in for good measure out in West Marin this past holiday weekend. For various reasons, we ended up “reverse commuting” this weekend and when we were heading east in the morning and then back west later in the day the number of cars coming the opposite direction was impressive.

Yesterday it was about twenty degrees cooler in Olema than in the Sonoma Valley at 4 PM. It is supposed to be nice all week. Jordan Bowen and I had a nice long chat with Dr. Daniel Swain. What did we talk about? Well, of course we discussed the weather. Dr. Daniel Swain is a climate scientist who gives an average of one media interview per day! You can hear the first part of our conversation HERE, and the second part is playing right now, if you are reading this at 5 PM on Tuesday. The archive will be Tuesday’s Epicenter program.

I am pretty relieved that I had time to pause and discuss the weather with Daniel and Jordan. I have had the time recently to pause and take a deep breath or two, thanks to all of your support. However my concern is for the future, when the dismantling of public media funding is no longer a big news story. I remind folks that in addition to raising the amount of money we usually do through our Pledge Drive and Annual Appeal, we will need to raise an additional giant chunk every year going forward.

One of the things that Dr. Daniel Swain talked about was fire season. This Saturday is Ember Stomp at the Marin Fairgrounds from 10 AM to 4 PM. KWMR is a media sponsor of this event and I will be there helping to emcee the burn demonstrations. This is a fun family-friendly event. Hope to see you there! I hear there is even going to be a dunk tank!

I hope that everyone had a great weekend and enjoyed some summer weather! Daniel Swain had a lot of very interesting things to share about our unseasonably cool spring into summer and about fire season as well.

Thank you for your support!
