“Eyre Long, not erelong…”

⚡ March 24, 2026 ⚡

“Turning Pages” is a long standing tradition on KWMR. I have written about this before, but I’m back to it again today. I am currently reading Jane Eyre by Charlotte Bronte on Mondays at 10 am “Turning Pages: Picture This.”. I stepped up to do some reading after long-time Monday hosts Lyons Filmer and Janet Robbins retired “Turning Pages: At Nature’s Pace.”

So far I have read Picture This, a book of short stories by my friend William “Nim” MacFadyen (with permission from his family), The Maltese Falcon, Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland, The Wizard of Oz, and The Great Gatsby. Jane Eyre is by far the longest one yet. I am about half way through the book and next week will be week twelve. I’m mostly sticking to books in the public domain.

I am not alone in hitting the airwaves on a weekday at 10 am. I read on Monday. On Tuesday you can catch either Lisa Doron’s “Turning Pages: Always Coming Home” or Neshama Franklin’s “Turning Pages: Reading to John.” Gene Ptak holds down every Wednesday with his lyrical “Turning Pages: Poetry Now.” Kerry Livingston reads on Thursday “Turning Pages: Connecting through Story.” Lucy Vitali is there every other Friday with “Turning Pages: Planet Tales.” Currently Lucy alternates with “Specials” chosen by Program Director Jeff Manson.

It’s fun to turn the pages. I do realize after listening to my most recent archive that I need to slow down the pace a wee bit. It is fun to read aloud, and to listen to people reading. Check it out!

And now for something completely different!

Don’t tune in to hear Lucy Vitali this Friday at 10 AM, she is taking a day off since KWMR is having some electrical work done, which means there will be no power at the station. The work will likely take the entire day. During this time we are trying something new: we will be broadcasting on all four of our transmitters. 90.5 FM in Point Reyes Station, 89.9 FM in Bolinas, 92.3 FM San Geronimo Valley, and our 90.5 FM booster in Tomales, all from doing Inverness Ridge Base (Richard Dillman’s home).

We can’t even run our generator, since that powers the panel that is being worked on. And KWMR’s phones will not be operating that day. The best way to reach any of us during the electrical work will be email.

This is something that we have been working on for a while. The idea is that if the Creamery Building is uninhabitable for any reason, KWMR would still be able to broadcast information to listeners. If you ponder this a bit, you will see why this might come in handy, if you catch my drift.

Busy week coming up! Don’t miss Spaghetti Bingo on Wednesday the 25th at West Marin School. Doors at 5:30 PM, Bingo at 6 PM. The EAC’s Litter Bugs Me is Friday and Saturday the 27th and 28th. Sign up to pick up some trash, then head out for a No King’s Protest on Saturday the 28th. On Friday at 3 PM the Tomales Bay Foundation is leading a tour of the Chicken Ranch Beach restoration. And Sharron Drake is at it again! There is a Pirate Party with Sea Shanty Singalong and Chowder and Sea Biscuits at 6 PM at Vladimir’s. Something for everyone!
