We just started the eighth month of the year. Weren’t we just getting used to writing 2026 on things? How is it possible that school will be back in session in just a few weeks for some kids? Those naked lady flowers are in full bloom, which means that autumn is on the horizon. 

There are some delicious blackberries out there on the vines and the huckleberries are busting out. Tomales Bay is the perfect temperature to cool off after these hot days, and there is always soft serve. 

I tend to enjoy my soft serve vicariously. If I partook as often as I would like my health would be at risk, and luckily for me vicariously enjoying soft serve in Point Reyes Station is VERY easy.

There are a few things on the horizon where you can connect with KWMR. Your first opportunity will be this coming Saturday, August 8. KWMR will be at the Inverness Fair. Come on out and say hi. 

KWMR will also be at the Nicasio Country Fair on the square on August 22nd. That event runs from 11am to 3pm. If we have any steam left you will be able to find us at the Downtown Get Down on 2nd Street in Point Reyes Station which starts at 3:30 PM on that same day! Never a dull moment. 

Plan ahead to catch the next fun event put on by Sharron Drake Community Arts. Sharron is a KWMR Programmer and serves as the Vice President of the KWMR Board of Directors. This year Sharron is producing “Sick to Death!” by Moliere, translated and adapted by Geoff Hoyle. Get your tickets now, it’s so much fun in the amphitheatre at St. Columbas. Really and truly, live local theatre is good for your health.

Speaking of Inverness. You can check out some local art at a special exhibit “High Summer Art Salon” at Vladimir’s through August 16th. Over 20 artists both emerging and established with local ties. 

And holy smokes, it’s fire season and if you look at Watch Duty’s map it’s looking pretty grim out there. Fire crews are showing us all that practice and excellent training do pay off. Huge props to all crews doing such a great job out there! Please be personally prepared.

If fire isn’t your thing, hang tight. Senator Mike McGuire is hosting a Super El Nino Town Hall where he will be in conversation with Climate Scientist Daniel Swain and others. Indications are that it “might” be a pretty wet winter. This is happening TODAY (8/4/26) at 6pm.

Fresh berries, bay swimming, fun events, and emergency preparedness are all good for your health! Soft serve is just good.
