There are always so many events and fun activities going on in West Marin, no one person could attend them all. If you peruse the Calendar section of the Point Reyes Light you might begin to feel a bit overwhelmed by the offerings. This doesn’t even include informal hang outs with friends and family, or other private events. 

I had the opportunity to attend two events over the past week that stood out to me. The first was the Point Reyes Books/Wayfarer Books event at the Dance Palace featuring author Chris Jennings in conversation with California District 2 Congressman Jared Huffman. As Chris Jennings pointed out in their discussion there are very few elected officials who have written books that were not political memoirs, and Huffman’s book stands out in this way.

“No Prophets: The Fight to Save Democracy from Christian Nationalism” is the book. I will not try to summarize since I have not yet read the book (but I will). These two eloquent and thoughtful people (Jennings and Huffman) discussed a pretty terrifying topic with grace and without the alarmist tendency of so much of our news “spin cycle” exhibits these days.. I think you will enjoy their discussion.

On Sunday, I made it to the final performance of “Sick to Death” at St. Columba’s amphitheatre. What a hoot! It’s pretty special to drive 15 minutes and sit in a beautiful setting and watch your friends perform a play translated and adapted by someone you know and have acted with in the past – Geoff Hoyle. The cast was stellar. Well done Sharron Drake Community Events! If I called out all of the spectacular performances this newsletter would be WAY too long.

CLAM has some great news! Tax credits have been secured that will allow CLAM and Eden Housing, working closely with the County of Marin, to break ground on the Tamalko Homes (the Coast Guard Housing) project by the end of 2026! Listen to the interview HERE. Congratulations and well done!

KWMR has finally completed our 2025-2026 Annual Report. As always, I am eternally grateful for the entire team here at KWMR, which includes the talented staff, our incredible volunteer programmers and our caring and attentive governing board. 

It has been a year since KWMR lost the Corporation for Public Broadcasting (CPB) funding. Everyone who stepped up has helped the radio station increase individual giving by 58% since last year. This makes up about 50% of what we would have received from CPB. Please CONTRIBUTE now to keep KWMR going strong.
